Beasts of the Southern Wild at the White House!

On Wednesday, February 13th, the cast and crew of Beasts of the Southern Wild including Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, and Benh Zeitlin, were invited by the First Lady Michelle Obama to screen the film and participate in a talk back with 80 students from the Washington, D.C. and New Orleans area. We can't begin to describe what an honor it was to not only receive the invitation but to be able to participate in a conversation about the film with the First Lady and all the students. Luckily, the day was caught on tape and immortalized on YouTube for all to view.

Michelle Obama on Beasts:

"It's a movie that makes us all think deeply about the people we love in our lives who make us who we are. It shows us the strength of our communities, no matter what they look like. It shows us that those communities can give us the power to overcome any kind of obstacles. And it also tells a compelling story of poverty and devastation, but also of hope and love in the midst of some great challenges."

Benh Zeitlin on The Colbert Report!

"My guest tonight is a director, who at the age of 26 directed his first feature film which has now been nominated for four Oscars. I will pretend that I'm happy for him." - Stephen Colbert

Last night, director Benh Zeitlin was a guest on Beasts HQ favorite, The Colbert Report. The interview was as funny and insightful as we hoped it would be.

In the clip above, Benh and Stephen discuss the BP oil spill that occurred the first day of shooting, using animal crackers on set as currency and what Oscar category Benh hopes we'll win.
